SAUNA
How do you sauna?
Our wood-fired sauna has been crafted to provide an authentic, Finnish-style sauna experience. Our sauna is heated to approximately 180 – 190°F and has the ability to create löyly [“lö-lu”], the soft and enveloping steam that rolls across the room when you toss water on the superheated rocks. Sauna is an event, an activity, and the contrast of alternating between spending time in the hot room and cooling down is part of the experience.
- Prepare: Ensure you are well-hydrated and have a bathing suit and towel.
- Heat up: Sessions in the hot room usually last 10-15 minutes.
- Cool down: Exit the sauna, cool off with a cold rinse or cold plunge, and relax.
- Repeat: Repeat this process for several rounds for a full sauna experience.
Throughout the sessions, make sure you are well hydrated and be sure to listen to your body. Don’t push yourself past your limit. Enjoy and respect the company of your fellow sauna-goers.
How is this different than a gym or hotel sauna?
- Our nordic sauna is custom-built, guided by Finnish sauna design principles. Once you experience the soft high heat [approximately 180 – 190°F] and rolling steam of the löyly [“lö-lu”] produced in our sauna you will immediately feel and understand the difference of an authentic sauna over those found in most gyms and hotels.
- Sauna stoves are meant to heat rocks and have water thrown upon them to create lö-lu. Our wood-fired stove was crafted in northern Minnesota by a fourth generation sauna stove manufacturer to provide a sauna experience in the style of the Finns. Join us and feel the difference!
What are the health benefits of sauna?
- Sauna has been anecdotally called “the poor man’s pharmacy” in Finland. While we don’t make medical claims, there is good evidence to support sauna’s association with enhanced cardiovascular health and reduced stress. There also is some evidence that it may improve mental health.
- Sauna is not a detoxifier in the way some claim – your kidneys and liver handle that. Only very limited and trace amounts of toxins in the body are sweat out through the skin.
- Outside of the known evidence, many people report feeling great, improved skin, helps with aches and pains, and, of course, sauna sleep.
- Note that while the evidence is promising, it’s important to consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
What are other benefits of sauna?
- Beyond physical wellness, saunas foster a sense of community and offer a meditative space for mental clarity.
- Our sauna offers a chance to disconnect from your phone and the stresses of everyday life and connect with others.
